Over 10,400 people braved the cold on the 23 April for the inaugural HBF Run for a Reason.

People could choose to run or walk either 4.5kms or 14kms and enjoyed free massages and fruit along with entertainment along the way. Participants could raise money for one of six charities: Arthritis WA, Asthma WA, Cancer Council, Lifeline, Diabetes WA and the Heart Foundation.

Our fundraisers, who received a special skeleton shirt and sweatband on the day, definitely stood out. Together they raised over $14,000 for Arthritis WA. Thank you and well done! A big congratulations to Verity Eftos, who chose to raise money for us and was in the top ten of all fundraisers for this event.

The Sambanistas entertaining on the 14km course.

Thank you also to the Sambanistas, who donated their time and energy to Arthritis WA by being our entertainment for the day. The Sambanistas are an exciting samba drumming group and their beats definitely revved up the runners. You can find out more information about them here: www.sambanistas.com

Thanks also to the many people who gave their time on behalf of Arthritis WA to volunteer for the event. Churchlands Senior High School in particular sent through 19 volunteers for the day. Thank you!

The event date has already been set for next year, so be sure to mark it in your calendar if you’d like to take part – Sunday 22 May 2011. To find out more about this year’s HBF Run for a Reason, visit www.hbfrun.com.au
