Bequests

Thank you for visiting our Bequest Giving page
On this page, we want to show you how to dream a little, to imagine a life without pain, without the disabling effects of bone and joint disease. We want to show you how you and your family can make a real difference to the lives of your children and to children yet to be born.
All it takes is to write your Will and include a bequest to the Arthritis Foundation of WA.
Leaving a bequest to the Arthritis Foundation of WA is not only an act of benevolence, it also marks your desire to help shape the future and gain a kind of immortality that can’t be achieved any other way. Here are four ways you can make a difference.
1. Leave an unrestricted bequest
An unrestricted gift gives us funds to use wherever the needs are most pressing. You simply bequeath to us a specific sum of money or other asset. Our Board of Trustees then determines the best use of your bequest.
2. Leave a percentage of your estate or residue
A percentage of your estate is sensible if the value of your estate changes over time. A residual bequest is the “rest, residue or remainder” of your estate after all other bequests, debts and taxes have been paid.
3. Leave a life income plan
A Life Income Plan or Charitable Remainder Trust provides for a trustee to hold and invest a principal amount and pay a fixed or variable amount to one or more named beneficiaries and/or charities such as the Arthritis Foundation of WA for their lifetimes or a term of years. After the expiry of the fixed term or the death of the beneficiaries, the remainder is distributed as per your wishes.
4. Establish a Memorial fund
You can establish a permanent memorial fund in your name or that of another person, with the income used as you direct. The principal will be invested and will continue to provide support to the organisation in perpetuity.
And while we hope to excite you with ideas as to how you might use assets and wealth acquired over a lifetime, you should always take advice from your financial and legal advisers. But first, write your Will and update it often.
The Arthritis Foundation of WA is also able to provide a free Will writing service if costs to amend or write your Will are of concern to you. Please call our Executive Director if this is of interest to you.
Last, is to appeal to your sense of philanthropy, a word that derives from the Greek word meaning to love humanity, to give to help others. A bequest is usually the last and largest gift you might ever give. A bequest, more than any other gift, can make a difference, can help find a cure, can help ease much pain and suffering and can help future generations.
If you are interested in leaving a bequest, please call 08 9388 2199 for more information.
