OAK - Osteoarthritis of the knee
The Osteoarthritis research program has now completed its final intake and we are pleased to present a new course as a result.

This fabulous program is based on the award winning OA of the knee research findings, and will take place in Shenton Park.
Did you know that muscles provide stability for joints? Strong muscles mean more stable joints. Learn how to improve your joint stability (this means less pain) while making the changes necessary to take control of your condition.
The program is conducted exclusively by a team of experienced health professional practitioners including physiotherapists and nurses.
The program includes:
- Functional assessment
- Exercise instruction - strength, endurance & flexibility
- Disease education
- Balance and falls prevention
- Self-management skills
- Behaviour modification techniques
- Pain control techniques - medications, relaxation
- Follow up education sessions
Participants are taught the importance of practicing exercise techniques and incorporating them into their daily lives.
This community programme has been running for over five years, and consists of 6 weekly sessions of 2 1/2 hours.
A small fee of $30 is applicable to cover tea, coffee and other incidentals, $35 if your partner attends. Similar programmes cost up to $700, so make the most of this wonderful opportunity!
