Empowering Paediatric Care with Skeletal Central: A New Tool for Bone Health Literacy

October 10 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Free

Join our educational session, “Empowering Paediatric Care with Skeletal Central: A New Tool for Bone Health Literacy,” hosted by Arthritis & Osteoporosis WA. This session introduces health professionals to the innovative Skeletal Central app for enhancing paediatric bone health literacy and improving patient care.

Session background:

Despite evidence that up to 50% of children sustain fractures, and that there is universal agreement that each individual should be assisted to reach their peak bone structure to prevent future fractures, there are no educational programs in WA directed to improving health knowledge and action in this area. To address this gap, Arthritis & Osteoporosis WA, Edith Cowan University (ECU), and partners have developed the Bone and Joint Health Project, a $300,000 initiative to create interactive, curriculum-aligned resources. The Skeletal Central app is a core part of this effort, offering engaging, evidence-based tools for health professionals and educators.

Learning session purpose:

This session aims to equip healthcare professionals with the knowledge and tools to integrate Skeletal Central into clinical practice, improving paediatric musculoskeletal health outcomes.

Expert speakers:

    • Prof Richard Prince, a leading expert with over 35 years of experience in bone health research and education. Prof Prince has published over 300 papers and contributed to the Federal Health Department National Strategic Action Plan for Osteoporosis. He will share his extensive knowledge on improving bone health literacy and prevention.
    • Prof Amanda Devine, Associate Dean; Public Health and Occupational Health & Safety, Edith Cowan University. Prof Devine will discuss the development and application of the Skeletal Central app in paediatric care.
    • Dr. Julie Boston, Director, Partnerships and Engagement, Edith Cowan University. Dr. Boston will provide her expert insights into the Skeletal Central app.
