DESCRIPTION:Term 4: Mon 12 October – Sun 13 December 2026 (9 weeks)\nClass Details:\n\nThe Tai Chi for Arthritis Program was developed in 1997 by Dr Paul Lam in collaboration with Tai Chi and medical experts. It is specifically designed for people with arthritis and related musculoskeletal conditions\, using gentle\, flowing movements to improve strength\, mobility\, and overall wellbeing. Classes are delivered in a relaxed and social setting\, making them both enjoyable and accessible to people of all fitness levels.  \nResearch shows that Tai Chi helps build muscular strength to support and protect the joints\, increases flexibility and mobility to reduce stiffness and pain\, and improves balance by focusing on safe weight transference. These benefits reduce the risk of falls and support greater independence. Regular practice has also been linked to improved cardiorespiratory fitness\, enhancing the healthy functioning of the heart and lungs.  \nThe program combines movement with breathing and relaxation techniques\, helping participants relieve pain\, manage stress\, and improve posture. By bringing together physical\, mental\, and social benefits\, Tai Chi for Arthritis supports participants to feel stronger\, calmer\, and more confident in their everyday lives. \nVenue: Harmony Hall\, Cafe Mojo Community Centre\, 16 Craig St\, Mundaring\nCost: Please see ticket details below to view term class fees.\nClass Times: You may only attend the day and time allocated for this class (once per week) \n*Please wear loose\, comfortable clothing and flat-soled shoes\, and bring a water bottle. \nMeet the Trainer:\nTeresa Stokes is a senior trainer and certified instructor with Dr Paul Lam’s Tai Chi for Health Institute. Teresa Stokes has been practising Tai Chi for 16 years and has shared her practice with Arthritis and Osteoporosis WA for the past 10 years. Participants are guided through a series of poses and sequences that connect the body and mind through the breath\, enhancing awareness of the body’s needs and encouraging relaxation and ease of movement. This class is suitable for individuals living with chronic musculoskeletal conditions\, provided they can safely move up and down from the floor.  \nResearch shows that yoga offers significant benefits for people living with chronic pain and joint conditions. Regular practice improves mobility\, balance\, muscle strength\, and posture while also supporting the nervous system and connective tissues. The program has been developed from evidence-based research and tailored to safely meet the needs of participants with varying levels of ability. Movements are modified as needed\, making the class both accessible and effective.  \nResearch shows that yoga can improve flexibility\, strength\, balance\, and joint health\, while also reducing pain\, stiffness\, fatigue\, and stress. Regular practice enhances mood\, builds confidence\, and supports overall wellbeing. Classes are progressive\, allowing participants to gradually build skills\, develop a personal practice\, and gain confidence to continue yoga beyond the course.  \nEach 90-minute class includes guided discussion\, breath awareness\, seated stretches\, a warm-up flow of postures\, static asanas\, deep relaxation\, and meditation. Participants must be able to get up and down from the floor a few times during class and should bring a yoga mat\, towel\, and blanket.
