 Manager - Education & Health Services Job Position

Arthritis & Osteoporosis WA is situated in Shenton Park WA and is a registered charity, non- profit organisation providing services and support to people living with a bone & joint condition.

The person we require is someone who is capable and able to handle a variety of tasks, is hands on      and will report directly to the Executive Director. The Manager - Education & Health Services will be        in charge of a small team of dedicated staff and volunteers who will assist with achieving the                    desired outputs and outcomes.

Main Duties Include

  • Manage the education and health services team (staff, contractors & volunteers)
  • Manage the Health Department of WA contract in consultation with the CEO:
    • Develop, Plan and coordinate education programs for both the public and                  health professionals – disease specific education and self management                 programs, seminars, workshops, in-service education, community talks,                    support group, telephone advisory service, displays, educational                                  resources (booklets, fact sheets, arthritis today magazine, enews
    • Develop, plan and coordinate educational activities for children with JIA                         and other BJD supporting parents and families
    • Develop, plan and provide support and advocacy for young adults                         transitioning including developing strategies  for activities  and disease                   education
    • Develop and plan health promotional activities
    • Coordinate the regional rheumatology service
    • Collect and collate statistical and epidemiological data from the rural               rheumatology clinics 
  • Oversee the exercise and hydrotherapy programs
  • Apply and develop funding submissions from both government and non-government            organisations
  • Responsible for the Health Services input into both print and electronic media –                           e-news, website, social media, Arthritis Today and other information services
  • Build and maintain relationships with  government agencies, other non-profit                            and commercial organisations

As a member of our small team it is important that the successful applicant is enthusiastic,                  pro-active and flexible and willing to accept challenges. Be willing to work and assist other                       departments within the organisation. From time to time this role will include working outside                     normal hours including weekend and intra and interstate travel.

Essential criteria

  • Tertiary qualification in health – APHRA registered with a sound knowledge in arthritis, osteoporosis and other musculoskeletal conditions
  • Proven management ability and experience in working with and managing a team
  • Experienced in writing funding submissions
  • Demonstrated initiative and self-motivation
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated flexibility and a positive approach to the working environment that includes           the ability to prioritise and multi task
  • Have excellent communication skills (including public speaking) - ability to relate to people         on all levels
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines independently or as part of a team
  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office applications
  • Current WA drivers licence

Desirable criteria

  • Certificate IV Training and Assessment
  • Demonstrated experience in working with volunteers
  • Previous experience working in the not for profit sector or knowledge of community health
  • Interest in or previous experience of working with children with JIA and those transitioning
