Emily is a senior lecturer and researcher at Curtin University and coordinates nutrition-related research at Fiona Stanley Hospital\, Fremantle Hospital and Cockburn Health. She teaches the latest advances in nutrition including evaluation of emerging diet trends such as intermittent fasting.  Her research interests include investigating the impact of diet on inflammation\, metabolism\, body composition\, and surgical outcomes. Through her telehealth practice The Nutrition Doctor\, she supports clients around Australia to make changes to their diets to improve their diet and manage health conditions such as arthritis\, osteoporosis\, weight-loss\, type 2 diabetes\, high blood pressure\, high cholesterol\, and fatty liver.  Emily has been an invited presenter to deliver workshops and seminars to health professional bodies\, not for profit organisations and WA Government Departments. Supporting the many health education activities of AOWA\, she has written magazine articles on the role of diet\, presented to young adults living with arthritis at The Arthritis Getaway\, presented at the National Consumer Conference\, and delivered education for GPs\, exercise physiologists\, physiotherapists and nurses on the role of diet for osteoarthritis. \n\nEvent Overview\nThis regional clinical update will provide evidence-based insights on nutritional strategies and weight management for patients with osteoarthritis and those undergoing joint replacement. Nutrition and maintaining a healthy body weight are increasingly recognised as key components of improving pain\, function\, and surgical outcomes. \nDr. Calton will address the relationship between diet\, body weight\, and joint health\, highlighting both mechanical and metabolic pathways that influence disease progression and recovery. Despite its prevalence\, many patients continue to receive fragmented or low-value care\, while proven\, evidence-based interventions remain underutilised. \nThis online education session\, presented by Professor David Hunter\, will provide an up-to-date clinical overview of osteoarthritis management. This module covers topics such as healthy eating principles\, body weight management\, weight loss strategies\, problem-solving techniques\, and the importance of incidental exercise. \nBy the end of the module: \n✓ You will be equipped with practical tools and knowledge to make informed decisions about your nutrition. \n✓ Work towards achieving a healthy body weight\, and lead a balanced and nourishing lifestyle. \n  \n\n  \nWeek 6: Finding the right support \nIn the program’s final week\, our goal is to empower you by offering practical guidance on accessing and utilising various forms of support. \nThis module covers a range of topics\, including: \n✓ Building a social support network. \n✓ Obtaining support for multiple health issues. \n✓ Understanding the role of different support systems such as community organisations and advocacy groups. \n✓ Accessing financial assistance. \n✓ Seeking support from healthcare professionals. \n✓ Falls prevention tips for creating a safe environment\, reducing fall risks\, and strategies for staying on track. \n  \nBy finding the right support\, you will have the opportunity to create a robust support network\, experience a sense of belonging\, receive encouragement\, and access valuable resources.
