Term 3: Fri 4 September – 9 October 2026 (6 weeks)
Build your own safe, personalised exercise program for managing persistent pain
Living with ongoing pain can affect far more than your body. It can change how you move, how you feel, what you feel confident doing, and how much you are able to enjoy everyday life.
The Pain Management Program at Arthritis & Osteoporosis WA is designed to help you feel supported, understood and more confident in the way you move.
Led by experienced physiotherapist Melanie Galbraith, this weekly program helps you build your own personalised exercise program tailored to your needs, pain levels, ability and goals.
This is not a one-size-fits-all exercise class. Melanie works with you to understand what you are experiencing, what feels difficult, and what you would like to improve. Your exercises are then adapted so they feel safe, achievable and useful for everyday life.
The aim is to help you move with more confidence, better understand your pain, and develop practical strategies you can continue using beyond the class.
What makes this program different?
Each participant is supported to build their own personalised exercise program.
Your program will be designed to be:
Safe
Movements are guided by a qualified physiotherapist and adapted to your needs.
Achievable
Exercises are matched to your current ability, comfort level and confidence.
Practical
The focus is on movements that support daily activities, not unrealistic fitness goals.
Personalised
You are not expected to keep up with everyone else. Your program is built around you.
Useful beyond the class
You will learn exercises and strategies you can continue using at home.
Is this program right for me?
This program may suit you if you:
- live with ongoing or persistent pain
- feel nervous or unsure about exercise
- want to move more safely and confidently
- would like guidance from a physiotherapist
- want a personalised exercise program, not a generic class
- need practical strategies for managing pain day to day
- want to better understand pain, pacing and flare-ups
You do not need to be fit, flexible or confident with exercise to attend.
The program is designed for people who may feel unsertain about movement and want safe, supportive guidance.
What you can expect each week
Each class includes education, personalised movement and guided relaxation.
Education
The Pain Management Program places a strong focus on education, helping participants better understand persistent pain and learn practical self-management strategies they can use in everyday life.
Each week includes guided education sessions covering topics such as pain, movement, pacing, flare-ups and self-management, presented in a way that is easy to understand and apply. Participants learn why pain behaves the way it does, how to move more safely and confidently, and how to manage daily activities without overdoing it.
Personalised exercise
You’ll work with Melanie to build exercises that suit your body, your pain levels and your goals.
The aim is not to push through pain. The aim is to help you build confidence, strength and function in a safe and manageable way.
Guided relaxation
Each class finishes with relaxation techniques to help calm the body and support both physical and emotional wellbeing.
What you will take away
By the end of the program, you will have:
- a personalised exercise program tailored to your needs
- a better understanding of how pain works
- strategies to manage flare-ups and pace activity
- more confidence with safe movement
- exercises you can continue at home
- practical tools to support daily life
- support from an experienced physiotherapist who understands persistent pain

A safe and supportive environment
We understand that starting a pain management class can feel daunting.
You may have tried exercise before and found it difficult. You may be worried about pain flare-ups. You may feel unsure about what your body can manage. You may also feel tired of not being heard or not knowing what support is right for you.
This program is designed to meet you where you are.
Melanie will listen to your concerns, work with your current ability, and help you build confidence gradually. You will be supported in a welcoming environment, with a focus on safe, achievable progress.
Not sure whether to book?
This program is for people living with ongoing pain who want practical support to move safely, build confidence and better manage daily life.
You do not need to be confident with exercise before you start. That is exactly what the program is designed to help with.
