Event Overview

Osteoarthritis (OA) affects more than 600 million people worldwide and remains a leading cause of pain, disability, and joint replacement. Despite its prevalence, many patients continue to receive fragmented or low-value care, while proven, evidence-based interventions remain underutilised.

This online education session, presented by Professor David Hunter, will provide an up-to-date clinical overview of osteoarthritis management. The session will focus on optimising core treatments such as education, exercise therapy, weight management, and psychologically informed care, while also exploring emerging innovations shaping the future of OA treatment. These include repurposed pharmacological agents, digital and AI-enabled self-management platforms, and advances in stem cell and precision medicine research.

The session will support health professionals to integrate evidence-based foundations with innovative approaches to deliver patient-centred, scalable, and effective osteoarthritis care across clinical and health system settings.

What You’ll Learn

Participants will be able to:

    • Apply evidence-based, first-line interventions to optimise osteoarthritis management
    • Identify common gaps in current OA care and strategies to reduce low value or fragmented treatment

    • Recognise emerging therapies, including repurposed medications, digital therapeutics, AI-enabled self-management tools, and advances in stem cell research
    • Support patient-centred, scalable OA care models across diverse clinical and health system contexts
