Osteoporosis Exercise Program – Monday 10:15am Shenton Park
October 7 @ 10:15 am - 11:15 am
$150.00Term 4: Mon 7 October – Sun 15 December (10 weeks)
Class Details:
Osteoporosis is a condition characterised by the loss of calcium and other minerals from the bones. This results in the bone becoming more porous and susceptible to fractures. Exercise plays a vital role in maintaining bone health due to the progressive weight-bearing effect of resistance exercise which stimulates new bone growth. Exercise can also improve your balance and reduces the risk of falls and fractures, which will result in a substantially improved quality of life.
Osteoporosis requires very specific kinds of exercise. These include resistance exercises such as lifting weights and climbing stairs, high impact exercises such as heel-drops and jumps, aerobic exercises such as brisk walking and cycling, and balance exercises.
This program is led by a physiotherapist and is specifically for people who have been diagnosed with osteoporosis or who have experienced a “first low trauma” fracture.
